Universal Waste Lamps
Southeast Recycling requires that the following packaging of Universal Waste lamps be followed by the generator prior to shipping. Waste Management [40 CFR 273.13] A handler of universal waste must manage lamps in a way that prevents release of any universal waste or component of universal waste to the environment. (b.) A handler of universal waste lamps must contain any lamp in containers or packages that are structurally sound, adequate to prevent breakage, and compatible with the contents of lamps. Such containers and packages must remain closed and lack evidence of leakage, spillage or damage that could cause leakage under reasonably foreseeable conditions. (c.) Universal waste lamps or a container or package in which such lamps are contained must be labeled or marked clearly with any one of the following phrases: “Universal Waste Lamps” or “Waste Lamps” or “Used Lamps”
Southeast requires lamps be placed in the containers or boxes loose without excess paper or other packaging material. DO NOT TAPE LAMPS TOGETHER IN BUNDLES. Lamps taped or not properly packaged shall incur a $60.00 per hour handling fee for un-taping and preparing lamps for processing. NOTE: Broken and crushed lamps MUST be shipped in a 55 gal. metal drum with a lid and ring or a 5 gal. plastic bucket with a lid. Broken/crushed lamps containers MUST be free of any foreign debris (paper, cardboard, rags, etc.) and MUST be dry. Lamp boxes should be palletized with boxes all in the same direction (DO NOT CRISSCROSS BOXES ON PALLET) Boxes should NOT be stacked over 6 high or 5ft.high on pallet , boxes should be strapped or stretch wrapped to pallet and ready to ship prior to scheduling a pick-up.
*NOTE: Original lamp boxes are fine to use for shipping as long as they can meet the above Universal Waste Regulations for packaging and shipping. |
